Paris – First couple days

After a lovely relaxing week in Austria and Germany, we were ready for Paris. We drove 5 hours across Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and France.  The landscape flattened out gradually but was still beautiful. We stopped at the Luxembourg American Military Cemetery along the way.  Over 5,000 American military are buried there, including General Patton, mostly from the Battle of the Bulge. Continue reading

After leaving Austria, we drove into beautiful Germany. First we stopped briefly in Oberammergau. Charming little town…the houses are painted with various scenes. We also walked into the village church to find an amazing Baroque cathedral. Wonderfully unexpected.

Salzburg and Austria

After a typical Austrian breakfast of various homemade jams, breads, cold cuts, cheese, hard boiled eggs and coffee…we were off for our day in Salzburg.  Rain was in the forecast for afternoon, so we headed to the Old Town to walk the Rick Steves walking tour under a warm sun.

Europe – Driving across Austria, Melk Abbey, and some Salzburg

An amazing day.  We began in Vienna, packing up and making our way via public transportation to the car rental store.  It was still hot and we had all our luggage.  Now my family knows why I said pack light.  We made it…reservation waiting.  Now on to the next adventure…driving a stick shift in a foreign country

Europe – Vienna part 2

After breakfast we headed to the Hundertwasser Museum. It contains the modern art of Viennese Friedensreich Hundertwasser. All four of us loved the art of Hundertwasser. It is really amazing, and I wish I could have brought some home. The museum is one of his buildings, which he built with irregular and undulating floors decorated with mosaic tiles. The walls, windows, and doors are all uneven as he didn’t believe in straight lines. The building was amazing, as was a nearby apartment complex that is still lived in.
